CONDITIONS OF ENTRY (FOR ENTRIES FROM ABROAD)1. ELIGILITY
● The International Photographic Salon of Japan is open to all professional and amateur photographers throughout the world.
2. ENTRIES
● Any theme is possible. We are looking for unique works that explore the full potential of photographic expression.
● Must be original work photographed by the entrant, and for which the entrant holds the copyright.
● Digital and digitally altered photographs are also eligible.
● Photographs that have previously been published (such as winners in other competitions) are also welcomed, but please follow the important notes stipulated below in Section 9.
● This competition is limited to color or monochrome prints. (Data, negatives and positive slides are not accepted.)
● The size for either a color or a monochrome print must be at least 10×12 inches (25cm×30cm) and no larger than 14×17 inches (36cm×43cm). We do not accept prints outside this regulation size range.
● Each work must be an independent print. We do not accept photo stories (or series).
● Submitted prints must be unmounted.
● Each entrant may send a maximum of ten (10) works.
3. FEE
● There is no entry fee. The Sponsors will cover the cost of returning unselected photographs.
4. APPLICATION PROCESS
● Complete the official entry form (A printable version is available on the All-Japan Association of Photographic Societies website; photocopies are also acceptable.)
● All photographs and your entry form are to be submitted in an envelope clearly labeled with your NAME and COMPLETE RETURN ADDRESS. Label the back of each photograph you submit with its corresponding NUMBER on your entry form, its TITLE, your NAME and COUNTRY of residence. Also, so there will be no mistake in the orientation of your photograph, write “TOP” at the upper edge on the back. Please put each photograph into a separate transparent envelope.
● Entries are not to be rolled, pasted, or mounted.
● If entries are submitted as a group, both 1) a list of entries and 2) each individual’s personal entry form must be enclosed in an envelope clearly labeled with the representative’s NAME and COMPLETE RETURN ADDRESS.
● All completed forms you submit must be clearly written in ENGLISH BLOCK CAPITAL LETTERS. Incomplete information is a cause for rejection.
● There will be no confirmation from the Sponsors when your submissions have been delivered. Please contact your local postal or courier service about obtaining an optional delivery confirmation receipt.
5. CONTEST AWARDS
● The three (3) photographs judged to have been the most superior will be distinguished as SPECIAL PRIZE winners. The other selected works will be awarded an HONORABLE MENTION. Each winner will be presented with an award and a commemorative catalogue highlighting all the award-winning photographs.
6. PROCEDURES FOLLOWING NOTIFICATION OF RESULTS
●The All-Japan Association of Photographic Societies (AJAPS) will send postal notification of prizes to award-winning photographers.
● Award winners are scheduled to be announced late December in the Asahi Shimbun and on the AJAPS website in late
● Award-winning photographers are to check the documents sent from AJAPS, agree to the subject matter of those documents, and return, fax or e-mail the applicable documentation to AJAPS by the designated date. When a correction is required, we request the same procedure be followed. All required forms are to be completed in ENGLISH BLOCK CAPITAL LETTERS. Please understand that corrections cannot be made after the AJAPS-specified deadline.
7. RETURNING PHOTOGRAPHS
● Award-winning work will not be returned. All unselected photographs are scheduled to be returned in April 2010 by Japan Post International Mail or SAL economy air delivery service.
8. CATALOGUE PURCHASE
● catalogue of the award-winning photographs will be published in April 2010. Catalogues may be purchased by remitting US $30 per copy along with your order to the All-Japan Association of Photographic Societies. Neither currency other than US dollars, nor checks, postal money orders or the like will be accepted. Furthermore, the Sponsors cannot be held responsible for any trouble regarding remittance.
9. IMPORTANT NOTES Concerning Entries
● The responsibility for obtaining all necessary consent to depict any person, subject, location, object or the like in a photograph submitted to the Salon contest will remain solely with the entrant photographer. Entrants must possess the exclusive rights to each submitted photograph, and are responsible for having obtained any necessary prior permission relating to the subject/subject matter. The organizer will not be responsible for any claims or complaints from third parties.
● Although photographs having previously received an award (works entered in other contests) are indeed eligible in this contest, please refrain from breaching any application guidelines set out in other contests. When submitting such a photograph, please clearly state the name of the contest, the year it won the prize, and the prize name.
● Any photograph that is prohibited by law or that disturbs public order or morals, or which the Sponsors may otherwise deem objectionable will not be considered.
● The Sponsors will not respond to inquiries or complaints about delivery confirmation or judging results.
● When the Sponsors determine that an entry is in conflict with any of these application guidelines, it is still possible for an award to be revoked even after it has been announced.
10. IMPORTANT NOTES □Sponsor and Supporting Corporation Rights
● The copyright for an award-winning work is the property of the entrant, however photographers of the award-winning pieces must give the Sponsors and Supporting Corporations consent for unlimited administration, management and use of the photographs on a non-remunerated basis for the purpose of documenting and promoting this contest in media that includes newspapers as well as domestic Japanese exhibition and venue websites. Whenever the works are used the photograph title, photographer’s name and country of residence will appear.
11. IMPORTANT NOTES □ Disclaimers and Conflict Resolution
● Photographs will be handled with extreme care; however, the Sponsors assume no responsibility for damage or loss caused beyond their scope of liability.
● The Sponsors will not be held responsible for any conflict with a third party due to a photograph entered in this contest infringing on other application guidelines. The Sponsors bear no responsibility for any damages arising from participation in this contest, unless the Sponsors acted in bad faith or with gross negligence.
● As regards competition entries, when there is a third person complaint, charge or formal objection such as the infringement of rights or compensation for damages, the entrant will deal with the entire situation; without imposing upon the Sponsor in any way.
● With respect to any dispute arising between an entrant and the Sponsors as regards this contest, the parties will submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Tokyo District Court.
12. IMPORTANT NOTES □Handling of Personal Information
● The personal information provided on the entry form will to be used to contact the entrant, communicate prize notification, return unselected photographs, mail catalogues, and by the Sponsors and Supporting Corporations for announcing upcoming contests.
● The photographer’s name and country of residence will appear each time an award-winning photograph is exhibited.

13. IMPORTANT NOTES □GOVERNING LAW
● These application guidelines will be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Japan.
