Urgent -- for tomorrow's hiking:

Since it's almost raining whole week, The steep Mt. Baldy's trail may get wet and slippery. I just discussed with Jennifer. For safety concern, we suggest to postpone hiking Mt.Baldy and switching to another easy trail ( not high elevation on) for this weekend. We can walk Chino Hills Park this weekend, get together at same spot as Leo posted on Salon's website at 7:00am tomorrow morning. There is no much elevation gain there and should be safe even it's drizzling.

we'll do Cucamonga peak instead because we are familiar with the trail. if anyone want to join, pls call in the morning or meet at the trailhead parking lot at 7am.

我这里有一个REI的 dirty 12 hiking routes for preparing Mt. Whitney, Cucamonga Peak is #6. Here is the list:

1) Malibu Creek - backbone Trail. 14.5 miles, 2000ft vertical rise.
2) Mt. Lukens via Stone Canyon 8 miles, 3200 ft vertical rise.
3) Mt Wilson via Chantry Flat & Upper Winter Creek trail 14 miles, 3600ft vertical rise.
4) Mt Baden-Powell via Vincent Gap; 8 miles 2800 ft vertical rise.
5) Mt. San Jacinto via Tranway Trail 11.5 miles, 2300 ft vertical rise.
6) Cucamonga Peak via Icehouse Canyon 12 miles; 3800 ft vertical rise.
7) Mt. Baldy from Manker Flat via Devil's backbone. 15 miles, 4000ft vertical rise.
Mt Wilson Toll Road, 18-mile; 4500ft vertical rise.
9) Mt Baldy from Baldy Village via Bear Flat. 13 miles; 6000ft vertical rise.
10) Mt San Gorgonio Via Vivian Creek; 16 miles; 5300ft vertical rise. 11502 ft el.
11) San bernardion Peak via Angelus Oaks; 16-mile; 4600 ft vertical rise. 10624 el
12) Mt Whitney via Whitney Portal 21.8 miles, 6200 ft vertical rise; 14497.6 ft el.

到Mt Baldy 有四个山峰每天有人上去。我遇到的人都说Cucamonga Peak 是Mt Baldy 最美的。 我们从早8点出发，下午一点到顶。回来用近三个小时。 REI 所谓12 Mi 是Round Tour 的路程。

沿着Baldy Ave 北上过了那个Village 继续（不要左拐）到尽头的停车场（周末每车$6.可以在停车场买Pass。 如果没有Ranger在那里，就不用买）就是Icehouse Canyon。 从那里一直往里走是一个Popular的路段。前半个小时大部分时间是沿着小溪走，现在有红叶，非常美。 3.6Mi 到达第一站Icehouse Saddle。从那里可以看到山后面的Wrightwood，常常是被云层覆盖。 从那里向左有两个Trail包括Baldy和Telegraph， 向右由三条，包括向东南的Ontario 和向东的CucamongaTrail。只要选对了，放心往里走就不会错了。这一段是2.8Mi。

昨天在山顶上看不到云层下面的Valley。但是头上和脚下各有一层白云，远望有几座山峰浮现云海之上，奇美。

供参考，曾经带一个朋友的8岁小子上去过，六小时上，四小时下。 五上三下就是团队的速度。常运动的人可以三上两下。

almost. only the trailhead/parking lot is about 1/4 mile or less up the pink line. you need to drive a little after departing Baldy Rd to the parking lot. you won't miss it.
yes, if nothing big comes up for Sunday, i will go with you guys.
Walking stick is recommended for this trail for some sections are really narrow and bumpy.
